Purpose


The network setup page displays all of the configured network and wireless settings on the device.

 

Procedure: Printing the Network Setup Page


IMPORTANT:  Verify that the W-iFi indicator light is 'ON' before attempting to print the network setup page.
Step Action
1 Starting at the home Setup Menu, repeatedly press  until Setup is highlighted.
2 Press .
3 Press  until Network Setup is highlighted.
4 Press .
5 Press  until Print Network Setup Page is highlighted.
6 Press .  The printer will display Preparing page... followed by Printing Network Settings...
NOTE:  Press  (Back button) to return to a previous screen. To go back to the home Setup Menu, press this button repeatedly.

Network Setup Page:  Default (out of box) Settings Explained 


Default Setting Value Description
Network Card    
Status Not Connected

This value indicates the current network state of the device. Connected will show only after successful installation of the software.

Note: This value can also signal a communication problem.

Bitrate 0 Mbps (megabit per second)

Bit rate is based on the connection method and the condition of the network.

Network connection methods (modes) include:

  • Infrastructure (54 - 100+ Mbps)
     
  • Wired (10 - 100Mbps)
     
  • Ad-hoc (11 Mbps)
End-of-Job Timeout (E.O.J) 90 (seconds)

The E.O.J. timeout value determines how long the network adapter will maintain an open TCP/IP port connection with the host (PC) should the host fail to send an End-of-Job command. The value can be adjusted through the Embedded Web Server (EWS).*

Note: A value of 0 (zero) disables this feature and shifts all port control to the host.

UAA (MAC) (universally administered address) 00200008C7FD

The value of the MAC address, or network hardware address, is a device-unique identifier.

Note:  If your network uses MAC address filtering, provide the MAC address to your network. Refer to your router/access point documentation or network administrator.

Hint: This value aids the end user in two ways:

  1. Helps to identify the printer during a wired network installation.  See Steps 12 and 20 of the Windows Network Setup Guide.
     
  2. A portion of the UAA becomes part of the created port name.  This  helps to identify the correct port name under the Ports tab of driver Properties.
    Example:  4800_Series_026DD2_P1.
LAA (locally administered address) 000000000000

If set, this value disables and replaces the UAA. This is not advised except for network administrators requiring a special hardware naming convention. The value can be adjusted through the Embedded Web Server (EWS).*

Warning! This value must be unique for the customer's network. A duplicate hardware address can cause serious networking issues.

Integrated Network Option Settings    
Printer Type 4800 Series

Identifies the Printer Device ID.

Note: This setting has no functionality unless it displays a value other than 4800 series.

     
TCP/IP    
Active ON Ready to accept TCP/IP network traffic.
Enable DHCP ON

Ready to accept DHCP server-administered IP parameters (IP, netmask, gateway, etc.)

Note: Wireless routers serve as DHCP servers. See your wireless router/access point documentation for further information. 

Address Source Auto IP

This setting identifies the IP address source.

The three possible values are as follows:

  • Auto IP - Automatic assignment of a 169.254.#.# address after ~20 - 30 seconds. 
     
  • DHCP -  Automatic assignment of IP parameters.  Requires DHCP to be active on the network.
     
  • Manual -  Static IP parameters manually entered on the printer will yield this message.   
Address (IP) 0.0.0.0 No address available.  Configuration required.
Netmask 255.255.255.0 Sometimes referred to as Subnet Netmask.
Gateway 0.0.0.0

No address available.  Configuration required.

Note: The value is determined by a local (LAN-based) router or outside (WAN-based) router.

Fully Qualified Domain Name ET00200008C7FD

Also, default Host Name.

The value can be changed through the Embedded Web Server (EWS).* 

Zero Configuration Name 4800 Series

This setting plays an important role in the creation of ports with Macintosh computers.

The value can be changed through the Embedded Web Server (EWS).* 

     
Wireless    
BSS Type (connection method/mode) Ad hoc Default value of Ad hoc will be replaced by Infrastructure in most cases. 
SSID (network name) print server 08C7FD 

This value is often replaced by the wireless router/access point SSID.  Notice the last six digits of the MAC address.

The value can be changed through the Embedded Web Server (EWS).*   

Wireless Disabled Not yet configured.
Preferred Channel Number Auto Ad hoc mode requires a specific channel, but the Infrastructure channel is determined by the router/access point.
Trouble Code Can't associate with wireless network Brief description of connection status.

*How to access the Embedded Web Server (EWS):


NOTE:  The embedded web server, or printer web page, is only accessible after the printer has been successfully configured on the network.
Step Action
1 Open your preferred web browser application (e.g. Internet Explorer).
2 Enter the printer's IP address after http:// (for example, 124.136.10.124).
3 Press ENTER on the keyboard.
