Overview
This article describes how to install the universal printer driver (UPD) in a Microsoft Windows environment.
Before you begin
In the following order:
Download the self-extracting universal driver file.
- Double-click on the file name to extract the driver files to a destination directory/path/folder. NOTE: You can change this directory path if necessary.
- Make a note of this destination directory (e.g. C:/drivers/etc).
- Close the Add Printer Wizard following the extraction process; you will be installing the printer through the Found New Hardware Wizard.
- Connect the printer to the computer using a USB or parallel cable.
- Turn the printer ON.
The Found New Hardware Wizard will open; follow the installation steps for your operating system version below. NOTE: Failure to install the printer through the Found New Hardware Wizard will result in the creation of two printer objects.
Procedure: Universal Driver Installation
Windows Vista:

Windows XP:

Windows 2000:
