This article describes the general procedure for updating the printer's firmware or network code levels. NOTE: Currently, this code flashing process is not useful until Lexmark releases new network code firmware. When code becomes available, this will be one of many methods for getting firmware out to the printer.
Before you can start flashing the printer's network firmware, you should do the following:
Obtain the printer's IP address. Click here for instructions on printing a network settings page. NOTE: These instructions refer to the Z1420; instructions for printing the network settings page differ by model. Verify that the printer is communicating over the network. The easiest way to do this is to access the printer's embedded web server. Click here for instructions. Obtain the network code firmware. Visit Lexmark.com for the latest updates. If sending the firmware over a wireless network, verify that you have strong or excellent signal strength. Refer to the QUALITY setting on your network settings page.
Step Action

Click on Image. 3 Again, click on Configuration. No Image 4 Click on Update Print Server Firmware. Click on Image. 5 Click on Browse. Click on Image. 6 Navigate to the folder that contains the firmware file, double-click on the file so that it fills the dialog box, and click Open. Click on Image. 7 Click Submit. Click on Image.
That's it! The WiFi indicator light will flash green () while the transfer and physical update of the firmware is taking place. NOTE: This is what happens on the Z1420 printer: other printers may respond differently.
Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for additional assistance. NOTE: When calling for support, you will need to know your printer model type and serial number.
Please call from near the printer and computer in case the technician asks you to perform a task involving one of the devices.
