Purpose

This article describes the general procedure for updating the printer's firmware or network code levels. NOTE:  Currently, this code flashing process is not useful until Lexmark releases new network code firmware. When code becomes available, this will be one of many methods for getting firmware out to the printer.

Before you begin

Before you can start flashing the printer's network firmware, you should do the following:
  • Obtain the printer's IP address.  Click here for instructions on printing a network settings page.  NOTE: These instructions refer to the Z1420; instructions for printing the network settings page differ by model.
  • Verify that the printer is communicating over the network.  The easiest way to do this is to access the printer's embedded web server.  Click here for instructions.
  • Obtain the network code firmware.  Visit Lexmark.com for the latest updates.
  • If sending the firmware over a wireless network, verify that you have strong or excellent signal strength.  Refer to the QUALITY setting on your network settings page.
