How to Disable the Microsoft Windows Vista Firewall

The Windows Vista firewall can block certain Lexmark software processes. As a result, network printers and multifunction printers which rely on these processes to communicate effectively over the network can cease to function. This article describes the method used to disable the Windows Vista firewall temporarily.

Procedure: Disabling the Windows Vista Firewall
Step Action Click Image to Enlarge 1 Click the Windows logo button. No Image 2 Click Control Panel on the right-hand side of the available start options. 3 Double-click on Security (Vista Category View) or Security Center (Classic View). 4
Under Windows Firewall:
- In Vista Category View, click Turn Windows firewall on or off.
- In Classic View, click Windows Firewall. Once the Windows Firewall screen appears, click Turn Windows firewall on or off.

Observe the message Windows needs your permission to continue, and then click Continue.
Note: Any link or program with the Windows Security Shield requires an administrator password unless you are logged on as administrator.
6 Select Off (temporarily and not recommended), click Apply, and then click OK.
