    • The printer's network settings have been reset to the factory defaults.
    • The wireless router or access point has been reset, and new or different wireless security values now exist.
    • The printer and printer software worked fine until recently, but now the printer is not communicating.

    What you will see

Any communication failure message may be displayed, but the primary communication error message will look something like this:

    Before you begin
    • Check the printer's wireless signal strength.  Click here for instructions, or, if you are certain the printer's network settings have been reset, continue to the next statement below.
NOTE:  If the printer is showing low signal strength, move it closer to the wireless router or access point.  If the signal strength is fine, click here for further troubleshooting tips.

    • Make sure the printer is turned  ON and that the WiFi connection light on the printer is  ONNOTE:  The WiFi connection light comes on within 10 to 20 seconds.
    • The original temporary wireless configuration cable* will need to be connected between printer and computer. NOTE: Close the last Windows Plug-N-Play  balloon that appears, and cancel out of the Found New Hardware Wizard.  Recommended:  Click here to confirm that all printer hardware devices are seen by the "Device Manager".

    • View or print the printer's default WiFi settings.  Click here for instructions. NOTE: The SSID: and BSS: values are the most important.

    • Obtain your wireless router configuration (security) settings and write them down.  Click here for instructions. NOTE:  Refer to your wireless router/access point documentation for further assistance.

    • Check your computer's wireless settings to see if the printer's wireless print server is recognized.  Click here for the image.  Click here for instructions.
