The reconfiguration procedure is beneficial if one of the following has occurred or has been observed:
- The printer's network settings have been reset to the factory defaults.
- The wireless router or access point has been reset, and new or different wireless security values now exist.
- The printer and printer software worked fine until recently, but now the printer is not communicating.
Any communication failure message may be displayed, but the primary communication error message will look something like this:
Step Action Illustration 1 Click Start, Programs, Lexmark 9300 Series, Wireless Setup.
2 The Wireless Setup Utility will now locate and identify your PC's wireless configuration settings. The message Gathering Wireless information will appear with a progress bar beneath it. 3
Highlight your wireless router or access point, identified by network name (SSID), channel and mode (BSS), then select The network name I want to use is in the list, and click Next.
4 Select your security type (No Security, WEP, or WPA), and click Next.
NOTE: This example uses WEP.
Enter your security Network Key(s), and click Next. NOTE: If accessing the network through multiple access points, additional keys may be required.
Verify the settings to be saved to the printer's wireless adapter, click Show Key(s) to identify correct entry of the WEP or WPA security keys, then click Next. IMPORTANT! Not verifying these settings against those on the wireless router/access point will result in configuration failure.
The Wireless Setup Utility now configures the printer's wireless adapter. A small window will appear with the message Configuring the wireless printer adapter and verifying it can access the network. Please wait....
NOTE: During this process a Network Settings page will print out.
Successful port creation yields a Wireless Configuration Successful message.
Highly Recommended: Write down the port name on the Network Settings page for future reference.
You are almost done. Open the printer's properties (Start, Settings, Printers & Faxes). Under Ports, verify that the checkmarked port name is equivalent to the port name that resulted from Step 8. If the correct port is not selected, use the scroll function to locate the port name, place a checkmark next to the correct port, and click Apply.
NOTE: You can click the General tab and select Print Test Page to confirm your success.
Please contact Lexmark Technical Support for additional assistance. NOTE: When calling for support, you will need to know your printer model type and serial number.
Please call from near the printer and computer in case the technician asks you to perform a task involving on of these devices.
