When to replace the cartridge

You can view the current toner level by printing off a menu settings page.

  • If your printer is an E250d or E250dnclick here for directions on printing a menu settings page. NOTE: On the E250d/dn models, the toner level reading is an estimation.
  • If your printer is an E350d or E352dnclick here for directions on printing a menu settings page.
  • If your printer is an E450dnclick here for directions on printing a menu settings page.

Whenever the Toner Low message appears, or when you experience faded print, you can remove the current toner cartridge and lightly shake it several times to redistribute any remaining toner. If this clears up the issue, the toner cartridge is getting low on toner. You can repeat the procedure to redistribute the remaining toner several times, but it is advisable to obtain a replacement toner cartridge once you become aware that the toner level in the current cartridge is decreasing.

  • On the E350d, E352dn, and E450dn, a decreasing toner level will be signified by a Toner Low message on the printer operator panel.
  • On the E250d/dn, a decreasing toner level will be signified by the toner low light () coming on. NOTE: The toner low light sequence does not appear if the 1500-page starter toner cartridge is installed.

When the Toner Low message appears, or when you begin experiencing faded print, you should order a new toner cartridge. You can print a few hundred pages after the Toner Low message appears, but the print quality will begin to decrease as the toner level decreases. When the print quality is no longer satisfactory, you will need to replace the toner cartridge.
For information on ordering a toner cartridge and other supplies, refer to the printer's User's Guide or go to the web site at
