Overview
This article tells you how to download the Lexmark PPD, log into CUPS, create a printer queue, and modify queue settings on a Linux operating system.
Downloading the Lexmark PPD

Log into CUPS
- Open a Web browser (e.g., Konqueror or Mozilla).
- Enter the following URL to access the CUPS Administration page: http://localhost:631/admin.
- Click Continue.
- When prompted for a user name, use root and the root password. NOTE: On SuSE systems, you will need to create an account with lppasswd and use this account instead of root.
Create a Printer Queue
- After logging into CUPS, select Add Printer.

- Enter a queue name (e.g., lex_queue) in the Name field and click Continue.

- Select AppSocket/HP JetDirect as the Device type and click Continue.

- Enter socket://printer_hostname:9100 in the Device URI field and click Continue. NOTE: Replace printer_hostname with the printer's host name or IP address.

- Select Lexmark from the Make list and click Continue.

- Select your printer model from the Model/Driver list and click Continue. The printer queue will be created.
Modify Queue Options
- In a Web browser, enter http://localhost:631/printers/lex_queue. NOTE: Substitute lex_queue with your printer queue name.
- Under the printer icon, select Configure Printer. The following options are configurable:






- Once you have made your change(s), click Continue to save the new settings.
