This article explains how to perform printer firmware update through the Embedded Web Server (EWS).
IMPORTANT! EWS update cannot be done with a USB cable connection. This procedure should be performed with the printer connected via an Ethernet cable to the network. It is not advisable to do this wirelessly (for wireless-capable devices) since a wireless connection is susceptible to data loss and interference. Data loss could, during a firmware update, cause damage to the printer.
Before you begin
IMPORTANT! Firmware update is essential to optimize the printer’s performance. However, this procedure should only be performed when Lexmark Technical Support has recommended a firmware update. Recommendations will be made by a technician should updating the printer firmware correct a printer function or a printing anomaly.
Do the following before updating printer or MFP firmware:
Make sure that printer is in a “READY” state or in an “Invalid Engine Code” state.
Double check for any option cards installed on the printer; should the printer have an option card installed, please check whether there is an updated firmware version for the said option card and make use of that instead.
WARNING! Do not update the firmware if you are unsure about the presence of special code or code that is specific to a Downloadable Language Emulator (DLE). For more information, contact Lexmark Technical Support.

Download the latest firmware and extract it to a certain location on the PC (preferably the Desktop).

Access the printer EWS by typing the printer’s IP address into the URL field of your browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari).
For example, enter http://MFP_IP_Address, where MFP_IP_Address is the IP address of the printer.
|3||Click on Settings and Update Firmware.|
|4||Click on Choose File > Go to the location of the file (preferably the Desktop) > Select the file > Click Open.|
The printer will display a message that it is updating the firmware.
Warning! Do not interrupt the firmware update. After completion, the printer should return to a Ready state.
Still need help?
Please contact Lexmark Technical Support if you need additional assistance. NOTE: When calling for support, you will be asked for your machine/model type and serial number (SN).
Please call from near the printer in case the technician on the phone asks you to perform a task involving the printer.
