Current non-touchscreen
Current touchscreen
Printers released before 2011

  1. The printer is out of the range of the access point (wireless router).
  2. The printer is trying to communicate with the access point, but the access point is turned off or is not working properly.
  3. The access point (router) has been turned off, and then turned back on, and the printer is trying to establish a connection with the network.
  4. You or someone else has performed a factory reset on the router, which erased the original security settings. This may have resulted in a new SSID (network name) and passphrase configured on the router's access point.
  5. Configured settings on the router no longer match the printer. Settings, to include:
    • SSID (Network Name)
    • WEP key or WPA/WPA2 pre-shared key/passphrase

Other possibilities or ways to this light status:

  • The printer is configured for a specific wireless network but it is not currently connected or is connecting to the router's access point.
  • A security setting mismatch exists between access point and router.
  • Interim negotiating status while configuring printer to join wireless network.
  • Heavy RF interference between printer and access point.
  • A printer unplugged for an extended period of time may require reconfiguration of the printer using the Wireless Setup Utility or Assistant.

 "Printer is not communicating wirelessly"
  • The printer is brand new and has never been configured.
  • The printer is connected via USB cable or Ethernet.
  • The printer is in the middle of being configured but not yet negotiating security parameters with the router's access point.
  • The INA is waiting for an ad-hoc (peer-to-peer*) connection.

* Computer to printer communication without the use of a router.

 "I have no wireless capabilities."
  • Initial power-up state
  • The INA** is not present.
  • The INA is not properly connected.
