How to update firmware with USB; Flash drive update; Thumb drive update; USB flash update; Code update
Overview
This article explains how to perform a USB flash/thumb drive firmware update.
NOTE: Loader, kernel, base, engine, AIO, fax, network, network driver, or scanner code levels may be upgraded using this procedure.
Default file extensions
A .fls flash file extension is required to perform this procedure. Fortunately, most current printer firmware packages include firmware with this file extension.

How to change the firmware file extension
To do this:
- Right-click on the firmware file to display a drop-down menu.
- Click on Rename.
- Type in .fls after the existing file extension; e.g., LJMNP092.ffv.fls
- Alternatively, remove the existing file extension and replace it with .fls; e.g., LJMNP092.fls
- Copy the renamed file to the USB flash drive.

Step Action 1 Insert the USB flash/thumb drive into the front panel USB port. 2

until the .fls file is displayed.

6 Program Device/Yes should be displayed. 7 Press .

Observe "Flashing from USB" followed by a brief "CRC check" (= cyclic redundancy check).9 If the result is "CRC OK", the printer will now receive the firmware update. A series of periods (full stops) drawn across the display (.......................) will signal the end of the flash routine.
NOTE: If the CRC check fails, you can try another USB flash drive, recopy the file to the flash drive, or download the file again.
T65x Series
Step Action 1 Insert the USB flash/thumb drive into the front panel USB port to display the USB Menu with the flash drive's file contents. 2 Press until the appropriate .fls file is selected.
3 Press the button to select this file. "Reading USB Drive" and "Do Not Touch" will be displayed.
4 Update or Do Not Update appears on the LCD. If you need to abort the update, press
and select Do Not Update.
5 Press .
6 Observe "Flashing from USB" followed by "Do Not Touch", "Reading Flash Data" and "Do Not Power Off" on the LCD. 7 Observe "CRC check" (cyclic redundancy check). This precedes the firmware transfer. 8 If the result is "CRC OK", the printer will now receive the firmware update. A series of periods (full stops) drawn across the display (.......................) will signal the end of the flash routine.

X65x Series MFPs
Step Action 1 Insert the USB flash/thumb drive into the front panel USB port. 2 Press the USB Drive button ( ) when it appears.
3 Press or
until the firmware file is located.
4 Press (the Select button) next to the file. Click here for image.
5 Press Update Firmware. Click here for image. 6 "Programming Code" and "Do Not Power Off" will be displayed along with a flashing green LED. 7 A brief "CRC check" (cyclic redundancy check) will precede the firmware transfer. 8 If the result is "CRC OK", the printer will now receive the firmware update. A "Restarting" message will signal the end of the flash routine.
NOTE: If the CRC check fails, you can try another USB flash drive, recopy the file to the flash drive, or download the file again.
