This article is applicable to the following Lexmark printer models: E260, E360, E460, E462, X264, X363, X364, X464, and X466.



The printer emits a loud ticking noise from its rear part where the paper comes out. This happens when the gears are moving (during the printing or booting-up process). This type of noise usually requires service for the printer. If your printer is still in warranty, contact Lexmark Technical Support to set up service. Before calling, you may want to try the troubleshooting tips presented below:

Check for damage/debris in area of noise.

Open the printer’s front cover and pull the supplies (Toner and PC kit) out.






Check inside for small pieces of paper or debris caught on any rollers inside.

Caution: The inside of the printer may be hot. To reduce the risk of injury from hot components, allow the surface to cool before touching.






Pull the rear door open and check for small pieces of paper or debris caught on the rollers.

If there are no broken/damaged parts or any debris inside the printer, proceed in calling Lexmark Technical Support to set up service for the printer.
