Various Printer Driver Options Are Not Available via Windows 8 'Modern UI' Apps

What you will see

You are unable to select any advanced printer driver features from a Windows 8 app.

Some of these advanced driver features, to include:

  • Mirror
  • Scaling
  • Overlays
  • Watermarks
  • Advanced Booklet
  • Poster printing
  • Staple
  • Other finishing options

 

What to try

  1. Open your Desktop.
  2. Open Control Panel.
  3. Open (View) Devices and Printers under Hardware and Sound.
  4. Locate your printer object.
  5. Right-click and select Printing Preferences.
  6. Make or change your applicable driver setting.
  7. Click OK or Apply.
  8. Return to your Windows 8 app, and then reinitiate your print job.

NOTE: Permanent setting changes require you to click Apply.

Windows 8
  • New Windows 8 Store* apps run next to classic desktop apps.
  • A new 'Class' driver in addition to UPD, XL, PS, and HBP, is available.

Windows RT

Microsoft completely reinvented and redesigned the Windows Runtime (RT)** printing experience.

Why? To accommodate a reduction in resources available on ARM-equipped devices, and to maximize performance when trying to print from Windows 8 apps

  • You still have a desktop, but no longer will you be able to install Lexmark-model-specific printer drivers via Devices and Printers.
  • The In-OS (v4 Class) driver supports a limited number of printer functions.
  • The In-OS (v4 Class) driver has limited product support.
  • Only basic printer and basic scanning capabilities are available.

* Modern user interface or tiled-application introduced with Windows 8 and Windows RT

Windows RT App 'Use printer setting' example

With Windows 8 apps, you will no longer see Use printer setting driver option. This was typically viewable when you selected Properties or Printer Setup from the application.
