What you will see

The printer stops printing, displays a Paper Jam message, and the control panel displays the printer's area where the jam occurred.

 

 

Understanding the Paper Jam Messages and its Locations

The table below lists all of the paper jam messages that can appear on these printers and the corrective action needed to clear the message.

NOTE: When a jam occurs, the message on the control panel will indicate the precise area in the printer where the jam exists. However, it is best to clear the entire paper path to ensure you have removed all jammed pages.

200.xx Paper Jam

The paper jam is located either at the Front door or in Tray 1.

Steps	Action	Click Image to Enlarge
1	Pull Tray 1 out or open the affected paper tray (could be any input source).
2	Firmly grasp the jammed paper and gently pull it out. Note: Ensure all paper fragments are removed.
3	Remove all the paper/print media from all the trays. Then fan the media and check for any obstructions, damaged media, size settings, and tray guides. Also ensure that paper is not wrinkled, creased, damp, bent, wavy, or has ream glue or curled paper.	No Image
4	Push Tray 1 or the affected paper tray back in.
5	From the printer's control panel, touch the  to clear the message and continue printing. For non-touch-screen printer models, select Next > Clear the jam, press OK, and then press  to confirm.	No Image

202.xx Paper Jam

The paper jam is located either in the Fuser area or in Standard Exit Bin.

Steps	Action	Click Image to Enlarge
1	If paper has jammed in the Standard Exit Bin, firmly grasp the jammed paper on each side and then gently pull it out. Note: If jammed paper is not visible, proceed with the steps below.
2	Open the Front Door.
3	If jammed paper is just below the Fuser area, firmly grasp the paper on each side and then gently pull it out. Ensure all paper fragments are removed. After removing the jammed paper, proceed with Step 5. Note: If jammed paper is not visible, proceed with the steps below. CAUTION—HOT SURFACE! The inside of the printer might be hot. To reduce the risk of injury from a hot component, allow the surface to cool before touching.
4	Pull the green lever to open the Fuser cover.
5	Hold down the Fuser cover and remove the jammed paper. Note: After you have confirmed that the inside of the Fuser unit is clear of paper, close the Fuser cover. Check the remaining areas of the printer and confirm that there are no other sheets of paper jammed in the printer.
6	Close the Front Door.
7	From the printer's control panel, touch the  to clear the message and continue printing. For non-touch-screen printer models, select Next > Clear the jam, press OK, and then press  to confirm.	No Image

23y.xx Paper Jam

The paper jam is located in the Duplex area.

1	Pull Tray 1 out.
2	If paper is jammed, firmly grasp the paper on each side and then gently pull it out. Ensure all paper fragments are removed.
3	Open the Front Door to access the jam area. CAUTION—HOT SURFACE! The inside of the printer might be hot. To reduce the risk of injury from a hot component, allow the surface to cool before touching.
4	If jammed paper is in the inner door, then firmly grasp the paper on each side and then gently pull it out. Ensure all paper fragments are removed.
5	Close the Front Door.
6	Push Tray 1 back into the printer.
7	From the printer control panel, touch the  to clear the message and continue printing. For non-touch-screen printer models, select Next > Clear the jam, press OK, and then press  to confirm.	No Image

24y.xx Paper Jam

A '24y.xx' paper jam message (where x and y = any number) indicates that a piece of paper has been detected in one of the printer paper trays and needs removed. The associated numeric error code is normally one of the following: 242.20, 243.30, etc.

The following table lists the '24y.xx' paper jams that can occur, and the location of each jam:

1	Grasp the handle and pull out the affected paper tray (could be any input source). Remove any jammed paper you find. 25y.xx Paper Jam

The paper jam is located either in the Manual Feeder or in the 650 Multipurpose Feeder.

1	Pull out the Standard 250-sheet Tray (Tray 1).
2	Remove any jammed paper you find. Since paper can tear during a paper jam, be sure to remove all paper fragments from the printer. Note: If jammed paper is not visible or the issue occurs in the 650 Multipurpose Feeder, proceed with the steps below.
3	Push the paper release lever in the multipurpose feeder (1) to access the jammed paper, and then gently pull it out (2). Note: Ensure all paper fragments are removed.
4	Insert Tray 1 back into the printer.
5	From the printer control panel, touch the  to clear the message and continue printing. For non-touch-screen printer models, select Next > Clear the jam, press OK, and then press  to confirm.	No Image
