What you will see
You notice slow scanning performance when utilizing any of these device functions:
Any scanner-equipped device that supports PDF Compression.
If PDF compression (high) is enabled, you can disable it but at the expense of larger file sizes.
One Example Utilizing Comparable Settings
|Setting||Value set to...||Scan Quality vs. Speed vs. File Size||Resolution, Color Depth, Content Type, Compressed PDF* values set to...||Scan Quality vs. Speed vs. File Size|
|Resolution||Low (75 dpi)||
Quality – Low
Performance – High
File Size – Larger
|300 dpi (Locked)||
Quality – Higher but with muted graphics detail
Performance – Slower
File Size – Smaller
|Color Depth||Black and White (Color – Off)||Black and White (Color – Off)|
|Compressed PDF*||Normal (Disabled)||High (Enabled)|
*To optimize file size, high PDF compression requires more device processing power and thus more time to process. Exceptions apply based on the complexity of scanned-original.
PDF Compression File Size vs. Other Settings
|PDF Compression||Other Settings That Effect File Size, Performance, and Quality|
|PDF Compression||File Size vs. Scan speed
||Size/Speed||Color Depth||Size/Speed||Content Type||Size/Speed|
|600 dpi or greater||High/Slow||Color (24-bit)||High/Slow||OCR**||High/Slow|
|High / Enabled / Secure Compressed||Low vs. Slower Speed||400 dpi||High||Grey (8-bit)||Medium||Photo||High|
|300, 200, 150 dpi||Medium||Black and White (1-bit)||Low/Fast||Text/Graphics||Medium|
** For example, scanning to a PC that is utilizing an OCR application such as Performance Fine Reader.
NOTE: Certain settings shown in this table are not available in every scan-mode on the device. Perfomance gains or losses utilizing this reference table are highly variable and dependent upon the complexity of the document being scanned.
