Overview

This article outlines the proper handling and replacement procedure of the Photoconductor Unit (PCU) for a Lexmark X86xe MFP.

Replacement/Installation Procedure

Steps Action Image
1 Open the Front Door.

Note: The photoconductor cannot be pulled out if Side Door A is closed.

2 Lower Side Door A.
3 Pull the photoconductor out of the MFP.

Warning—Potential Damage: To avoid overexposing the photoconductor, do not leave the door open for more than ten minutes. Also place the photoconductor on a flat, clean surface.

4 Unpack the new photoconductor unit.

Warning! In order to avoid contamination, do not touch the blue, shiny surface of the drum.

5 Align and insert the end of photoconductor unit.
6 Remove the tape from the top of the photoconductor unit.

Caution! Do not use a sharp object to remove the tape because it may damage the photoconductor unit.

7 Push the photoconductor in as far as it will go.

Note: The photoconductor clicks into place when correctly installed.

8 Close Side Door A.
9 Close the Front Door.

Note: After performing the steps above, the MFP performs a motor cycle and clears the Replace Photoconductor warnings. Then the MFP returns to the Ready state.
