When receiving faxes, the printout displays characters that are overlapping each other. See sample image below.

Print quality issues may occur when the Error Correction Mode (ECM) fax setting is disabled. ECM automatically detects and corrects errors in the fax transmission process that are sometimes caused by phone line issues.
NOTE: Turn OFF ECM for testing purposes only. If disabling ECM fixes a problem, then you or the recipient should consider contacting your phone line provider.
Ensure that ECM is enabled. To do so, follow either of the following options:
|Via the printer Control Panel||Via the embedded Web Server (EWS)|
Press Menu > Settings > Fax Settings > Analog Fax Setup or Fax Setup > Fax Send or Fax Send Settings > Enable ECM, and select Yes.
Note: Changing this setting may vary per model. Should you need further assistance, please refer to your printer’s User’s Guide or contact Lexmark Technical Support.

Select Settings or Configuration > Fax Settings > Analog Fax Setup > Fax Send Settings > Enable ECM, and tick the box.
