Lexmark MS71x/MS81x & MX71x/MX81x – Troubleshooting 24x.06 Paper Jam

Document ID:TE552

Usergroup :External
07/18/13 Properties

24x.06 jam; 241.xx paper jam; Unable to pick paper from Tray 1; Unable to come out of tray; Failed to feed;

What you will see

The printer posts a 24x.06 paper jam where ‘x’ denotes the tray number (i.e., 241.06 for Tray 1, 242.06 for Tray 2, etc).

NOTE: This error code will post when the picked paper fails to exit the paper tray. In some cases, the printer starts to print blank pages before it stops with the error.

Possible cause

Improper paper storage, such as the one shown in the left-hand image below, may cause paper to curl or become wavy (as illustrated in the middle image). If the paper has some curl and is loaded in the paper tray so that the curl is toward the bottom of the tray (right-side image), then the paper can stub into the separator roll during the picking process and may not make it out of the tray.

The images above show how the media might curl toward the bottom of the tray, thus making it difficult for the printer to pick up sheets and therefore produce a 241.06 paper jam.

Avoiding paper jams

The following tips should help you avoid most jams and ensure your device's continuous performance.

Step Action

Make sure the paper is flat and not wavy, curled or damaged. The sample image below shows a stack of paper that is curled upwards. If this is how the media looks when placed in the tray, flip or replace the media.

Load your paper properly. Make sure the sheets lie flat in the tray.

Use only recommended paper or specialty media. For more information, please check the printer’s User’s Guide under the section Paper and specialty media guide.

Verify the paper level in the tray is below the max fill line and make sure the tray's side and rear guides are set to the correct media size. Then load the paper without snuggling guides against the paper.

Remove the paper tray and lower the pick arm assembly.

Check condition of the pick tires and make sure that they are not damaged or contaminated. See comparison below.
