Using Twacker to test a TWAIN driver; X340 MFP; X350d MFP; X502 MFP; X632e MFP; OptraImage X6100; OptraImage X6100

The benefits of TWACKER for testing scanner-related issues:

  • Quickly identifies if you have the necessary TWAIN driver installed on the computer.
  • Identifies the existence of other TWAIN drivers that may be causing resource conflicts with your Lexmark-supplied twain driver.
  • Allows testing of TWAIN scanning features for verification purposes.
  • Lets you test a scanner without Lexmark-supplied software; i.e., Presto's PageMaker, or any other third party software claiming to be TWAIN compatible.
NOTE: The TWACKER utility is from the TWAIN WORKING GROUP. Lexmark does not provide support for this program and the information below is provided as a courtesy only.

Using TWACKER to test the functionality of a TWAIN driver

Step Action

Download the "" application package:

Unzip, locate the TWACKER.exe file, and run the executable.

Once the utility is open, click File, Select Source. The generated list will contain all installed TWAIN drivers.

If the driver you wish to test is not listed, it is not installed correctly. Reinstall the driver file to resolve this issue.

From the list, select the driver you wish to test.

For testing purposes you will have two options:

Scan to File – Click File, "File".
Scan to screen  –  Click File, "Native". (Note: The scan to screen cannot be saved.)

Click File and ensure Show UI is checked.

Click File, Setup to change the various settings (resolution, scan mode, etc).

Click File, Acquire to initiate the scan.  If the driver is working correctly, the scan will proceed normally.
