How to download fonts with PostScript Driver; Microsoft Windows 95; Microsoft Windows 98; Microsoft Windows NT 4

Solution

Overview

Soft fonts may be downloaded to the printer using the printer driver.

Requirement

An installed PostScript driver that has a Font tab

No Font tab?

It is likely that you have an installed Lexmark 'MS-certified' system PS printer driver,  which replaced the older Lexmark PCL and PS drivers.

Driver architecture changed for several reasons:

  • Vista support
  • Windows 64-bit driver support
  • Suggested Microsoft architecture
  • Printer manufacturer decision
  • One-driver solution

Under Printing Properties: Driver Features No Longer Available

Driver Tab Previous Driver Replacment System Driver
Removed/Not Supported New Options/Changed Settings
Font Yes No
  • Download fonts
  • Updated list

Forms Yes No Tab completely removed. Custom paper sizes can be supported via the operating system's Server Properties.
Overlays Yes No Tab completely removed. Previously used to create simple pre-printed forms through the driver.  Alternative solutions include:
  • Forms Composer

  • Optra Forms

NOTE: Watermarks were relocated and can be found under Printing Preferences.

Possible Workaround

If you can obtain an older generation printer driver of any non-specific printer model, you may still be able to download your fonts to the printer using this method. Otherwise, please call Lexmark Technical Support for further assistance.

NOTE: You must have proper ownership or license rights for any fonts you are trying to load on the printer.
