No Camera or Scanner Selected when Scanning Using Image Capture
A message "No camera or scanner selected." displays when Image Capture is opened, which makes it look like the printer scanner is not installed or detected. (Click image below to enlarge.)
Resolve the issue by performing the steps detailed below. IMPORTANT: Before performing the steps below, you need to install the scanner driver for the Mac OS X 10.4, Mac OS X 10.5, Mac OS X 10.6, and Mac OS X 10.7 to prevent problems when initiating the scan software for Mac. Step Action Click Image to Enlarge 1 Select System Preferences and click on Universal Access. No Image 2 Select Enable access for assistive devices by clicking on the checkbox provided. 3 On the Universal Access window, click on the "Show All" button and then double-click on Print and Fax. No Image 4
On the Print and Fax window, click the Sharing Preferences button and enable Scanner Sharing by clicking on the checkbox provided.
Note: If the Scanner sharing option is grayed out, click on the lock icon below the window to make changes.
5 Open Image Capture application and look at the window's left-hand pane. It should show DEVICES and SHARED. Notice that the arrow for DEVICES is already expanded; however, the arrow for SHARED is not. 6 Click on the arrow and it should display the hidden Lexmark scanner entry (Bonjour Shared). 7 Make sure Allow scanning to this Mac is checked for the button scan to work.
