How to Install MarkVision Professional 11.0 in RedHat or SuSE Linux

How to install MVP 11.0; MarkVision Professional 11.0 (MVP); RedHat Enterprise 3.0 WS; SuSE Linux Enterprise 9


NOTE: Support for this device management tool expired in 2014. MarkVision Enterprise (MVE) is Lexmark's current and latest device management tool, which offers many of same features as those found in MarkVision Professional. Update to MVE if you would like to receive ongoing technical support and product updates. 

To install MarkVision Professional 11.0 onto RedHat Enterprise 3.0 WS or SuSE Linux Enterprise 9, do the following:

  1. Make sure you are logged on with root user authority. NOTE: Non-administrative users will have permission difficulties.
  2. Open a terminal session.
  3. Create a directory called /lexdrive using the following command:
    # mkdir /lexdrive
  4. Open a web browser and go to
  5. Download markvision-pro-linux-glibc2-x86.tar.gz into the /lexdrive directory.
  6. Extract the package file as follows:

    # gzip -d /lexdrive/markvision-pro-linux-glibc2-x86.tar.gz 

  7. Untar the package file as follows:
     # tar -xvf /lexdrive/markvision-pro-linux-glibc2-x86.tar 
  8. Enter the /lexdrive/markvision-pro-linux-glibc2-x86 directory as follows:
    # cd /lexdrive/markvision-pro-linux-glibc2-x86 
  9. You can install all the MarkVision components at once or just individual components.

    • To install all MarkVision components, issue the following command:

      rpm -ivh *.rpm

    • To install individual MarkVision Professional components, specify the file name of the MarkVision Professional component you want to install.

      • To install just the MarkVision Professional Server, issue this command:
        rpm -ivh markvision-pro-MVJserver-*.i386.rpm

      • To install just the MarkVision Professional Client, issue this command:
        rpm -ivh markvision-pro-MVJclient-*.i386.rpm

  10. Enter the following in the command line:
    # /usr/local/lexmark/setup.mvjserver
    Answer any questions that may appear. This file will set up the MarkVision Server users for use with the MarkVision Professional server.
