This article describes how to create an AS/400 device description for printing non-IPDS jobs using Host Print Transform (HPT).
Before you begin, you must log in as the system operator or the security officer (QSYSOPR or QSECOFR), or have print operator authority.
Type CRTDEVPRT (create device printer) from a command line, and then press Enter.
Give the printer a device name of your choice (e.g., MS810HPT, or you can have any name).
Specify the DEVICE CLASS as *LAN.
Set the TYPE to 3812 and MODEL to 1.
Set the LAN Attachment (LANATTACH) to *IP.
Set the PORT number to 9100 for an internal network adapter and Online at IPL to *YES.
Specify the default Font: identifier you want to use for this device; for example, FONT: Identifier 11.
Set FORMFEED to *AUTOCUT.
Set Separator drawer to *FILE and Separator program to *NONE, then press Enter.
Set the Activation timer (ACTTMR) to 170 and Inactivity timer (INACTTMR) to *SEC15.
|13||Specify the Manufacturer type and model (MFRTYPMDL) to *LEXMARKT634, for example.
Note: MFRTYPMDL is variable; select the printer model closest in value to your printer model. To view the possible values under MFRTYPMDL, then press F4.
Set Paper source 1, Paper source 2, Envelope source, and so on to *MFRTYPMDL.
For ASCII code page 899 support, set *NO.
Set Image configuration to *NONE.
Specify Graphic character set to *SYSVAL.
For the Remote Location Name or address (RMTLOCNAME) field, enter the IP address or the host name for your network adapter.
Lastly, set the System Driver Program (SYSDRVPGM) to *IBMPJLDRV and press Enter to save the printer device description (DEVD).
Now you must VARY ON the device. From a command line, type WRKDEVD.
Move your cursor to the printer you have just created, type the number 8, and then press Enter.
Press F12 to exit out of WRKDEVD and back to your command line.
Turn on the MS810HPT WTR.
Note: To print the job you can either transfer the job to the MS810HPT OUTQ that was created with the DEVD or change the WTR so it points to the OUTQ containing the job you want to print.

IMPORTANT! The file is large: 7.35 MB. If you are using a slower Internet connection, please allow extra time for the file to load.
The steps above enable printing of basic non-IPDS jobs only. Should you need further support on printing non-IPDS jobs, please contact IBM* service team.
