Print Failure with Paper Sizes that Exceed the Universal Size Specification in Macintosh OS X 10.5-10.8

Document ID:SO1621

04/01/13 Properties

Problem

Unable; Create custom paper size; Optra; E series printer; Custom form creation fails

Solution

What you will see

In Macintosh OS X 10.5 – 10.8, the printer does not print the job when paper size is set to Universal and beyond its maximum size.
Moreover, the printer operater panel will not prompt the user to load even the default paper size; i.e., Letter-size paper.

Suggested Remedy

Set a valid value for Universal paper size.

Explanation

Apple application limitation:

The application writes or appends a letter 'size' command to the print file whenever the user-defined region exceeds the maximum region defined in the PostScript Printer Description (PPD).
