How to Set Lexmark as the Default Printer in Microsoft Windows 95 / 98 / Me / 2000 / XP / Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8 and Macintosh

Solution

Overview


The default printer will be designated as the default destination for all print requests unless otherwise specified. Please follow the steps applicable to your operating system below.

 

Windows 95 / 98 / Me / 2000  


    Step Action
    1
    Go to Start.

    Click on Settings, and then Printers.

    Right-click     on the Lexmark printer icon, and then select Set as default printer.

    Note: The icon should now display a white checkmark inside a black circle.
     

     

Windows XP


    Step Action
    1
    Go to Start.

    Click on Printers and Faxes.

    Note: If using Windows XP Classic View, click Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes. Alternatively, you may click on Start > Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.

    Right-click     on the Lexmark printer icon, and then select Set as default printer.

    Note: The icon should now display a white checkmark inside a black circle.
     

     

Microsoft Windows Vista and Windows 7
 

Step Action

Click on .

Click on Printers (Windows Vista) or Devices and Printers (Windows 7).

Note: If using Windows Vista Classic View, click on  > Control Panel > Printers. If using Windows 7 Category View, click on  > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers.

Right-click on the Lexmark printer icon, and then select Set as default printer.

Note: The icon should now display a white checkmark inside a green circle.
 

 

Microsoft Windows 8
 

Step Action

With a touchscreen-capable device, while on the Start screen, swipe up and touch the All apps icon OR with a mouse, right-click anywhere on the Start screen and then click All apps.

Tip! With a keyboard, press the WIN logo and X keys together to access the Power User Menu, which has a shortcut for Control Panel.

On the Apps screen, swipe or scroll to the right and find the Windows System category.

Press or click on the Control Panel icon.

Click on Devices and Printers.

Note: If using Windows 8 Category View, open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Devices and Printers.

Right-click on the Lexmark printer icon, and then select Set as default printer.

Note: The icon should now display a white checkmark inside a green circle.
 

 

Macintosh OS 10.X
 

Step Action

Click on the Apple symbol, and then System Preferences.

Click Print & Fax.

Note: If using Macintosh versions 10.7.x and 10.8.x, click on Print and Scan.

Right-click or Control-click the printer icon.

Click Set as Default.

Note: If using Macintosh versions 10.6.x, 10.7.x, or 10.8.x, you may select from the drop-down menu labeled Default Printer. Below the printer icon, the word Default should now be displayed.
