How to Install Lexmark Printer Drivers on a Windows Operating System

This article details the steps in installing the Lexmark printer driver on a Windows operating system. The Lexmark driver can be found on the installation CD that comes with your printer or via the download option available in our Lexmark website.
The below installation procedure is identical for the following printers except for printers lacking FAX or wired ETHERNET capabilities.
- S31X* Series (No Fax)
- S41X Series (No Ethernet)
- S51X Series
- Pro 71X Series
- Pro 91X Series
- Pro 4000 (No Ethernet) and Pro 4000c
- Pro 5500 and Pro 5500t
NOTE: *An X denotes any number within a given printer model series.
The Laser printer or MFP installation may slightly vary from the installation shown below; i.e., hardware setup differs per printer model.

Insert the installation CD or initiate the driver-download extraction process.
Note: Click here to view how to download the latest Lexmark drivers.
For CD installation, if the Windows AutoPlay dialog appears, click Setup.exe.
Note: If AutoPlay is not turned ON, initiate the installation by clicking the logo start button > Computer > drive letter showing Lexmark.
|3||Install Type will appear.
|Windows Vista only
When you see a User Account Control screen, click Continue.
Note: Administrator privileges are required for successful installation.
|4||Welcome... select Install.|
|5||Agree to accept the License Agreement to Continue. Then click Continue for the Security Notification.|
|6||Select software to install, and then click Continue.|
|Important! If you select Yes to step 7, then you must complete the following printer preparation steps.|
If you selected YES to step 7.
Perform the following unpacking and printer preparation steps, clicking Continue after each step performed:
Steps will vary slightly by printer model.
It is critical to make sure cartridges are properly inserted and seated in the carrier before proceeding with the installation.
If you selected No Thanks to step 7.
|The printer software will start installing to the default folder C:/Lexmark or the folder specified in STEP 3.|
How do you want to connect your printer?
Select one of the following and then click Continue.
Select the current Wi-Fi indicator light status and then click Continue.
Other possibilities include:
Select your Wireless Configuration Path:
|13||Select Yes if you want to continue with Wireless setup.|
Click Continue after selecting:
Click Continue but be aware of this reminder since these values are absolutely necessary to join your wireless network.
Ethernet-equipped printer models only
|Click Continue after you disconnect the Ethernet cable since the printer will not accept simultaneous wired and wireless network connections.|
|17||Connect the installation (USB) cable between PC and printer, and click Continue. See 'Windows Vista/7/8' below before clicking Continue.|

Additional notifications will appear after you connect the USB cable.
Synchronization step, no action is necessary.
Searching for Wireless Networks now appears. This site survey will locate ALL other wireless devices or networks.
Note: Only local subnets or network segments will be searched.
Select your network name (SSID) and click Continue.
This is your AP network name (SSID). Be cautious of identical names in areas of heavy wireless congestion, especially if you are using the router's default SSID.
If your AP SSID is not visible
Click Continue after selecting Yes or No thanks for how you would like the software to handle the processing of passphrase.
Important! This is a case-sensitive and spacing-sensitive value. Failure to enter the security key correctly will result in a Connection failed message. Try to re-enter the value more than once since incorrect entry of the key is common.

What to do?
Note: Neighboring AP may be closer to your workstation and printer than your AP.
Successful negotiation of security parameters will result in the printer being configured with the following settings:
|23||Remove the installation cable. If the procedure was successful, a network settings page will print.|
|24||Connection Successful, Your printer has successfully connected to your wireless network. Click Continue.
A green Wi-Fi light indicator should now be present on the printer.
|Final configuration takes place with this message: "Please Wait..."
Next, decide which Advanced Features you would like to configure by selecting or deselecting the following functions:
Click Continue or Quit.
|27||Enter your E-mail address and click Continue.|
The configuration utility with attempt to match your e-mail address to the appropriate settings for your ESP (E-mail Service Provider):
Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) will need to provide any of the above settings if there is a setting mismatch.
You will need to provide your E-mail Username and E-mail Password.
If you see E-mail Setup Incomplete:
Otherwise, click Finish.
|30||Verify and change the Language, Country, Date and Time, and then click Continue.|
|31||You will not be able to send faxes successfully unless your station name and number are properly entered.|
|32||If you are behind a PBX, you will need to enter your Dial Prefix.|
|33||Select Yes Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) if you are using your device for Fax over IP (FoIP).|
|34||Select how this phone number will be used and then click Continue.|
|35||Based on how you answered the previous step, follow the connection diagram and then select Continue.|
|36||Verify Summary of Settings and click Continue if you are satisfied, or click Back to change configuration settings.|
Observe the additional settings that can be configured via Lexmark Printer Home
|38||Lastly, you may see this screen again. If so, click Continue to complete your printer setup.|
|41||Click Print Sample Page or Continue.|
