Problem

Printer hangs on calibrating; Waiting; Printing; Excessive calibration; Constant busy message; Not Responding;

Solution

Overview

The printer hangs and does not come to the Ready screen. The operator panel screen may be blank or display Busy, 'Performing Self Test', a stopwatch symbol, or a line of dots. But the printer never progress beyond that point.

Troubleshooting

Steps Actions
1 Power off the printer and disconnect all communication cables (i.e., the parallel, Ethernet, USB cables and wireless option) going into the printer. Leave the power cord as the ONLY cord or cable going into the printer.
2 Power on the printer. If the printer comes to the 'Ready' state after powering it back on, use the operator panel on the printer to print one of the internal pages, such as a settings page or a demo page.

Note: If the issue occurs again at any time with only the power cord connected, proceed with the steps below.

3 Download the latest firmware code.
  1. Go to Lexmark Support website
  2. Click the Support & Downloads link on the left-hand pane.
  3. Type your printer model inside the “Search by Product or Software Name” box, and then hit Select. Example: Lexmark CS310 or CX310
  4. Click the “Downloads” tab and check the latest firmware version.
  5. Click the “Download” button and save the file. Make a note as to where you have the files saved.

Note: The downloaded ZIP file should contain a text document (Update Instructions) and an “.fls” file (actual code).

4 Power off the printer again. Reconnect the communication cable(s) back into the printer, one at a time (if you had more than one installed). Power on the printer after you install each cable and print a sample page.

Note: If the issue returns after you reinstall one particular cable, that cable will probably need to be replaced.

5 If these issues persist or if you are having difficulties doing the code update, please contact Lexmark Technical Support for other troubleshooting suggestions.
