Lexmark MS81x & MX81x – Troubleshooting 200.x5 or 241.08 Paper Jam Error

Document ID:SO7152

01/18/13 Properties

Problem

Error code 200.05; 200.15; 200.xx; 241.08; Jammed sheets overlapped in fuser; Fuser jam; Paper feed issue

Solution

 What you will see

The printer posts a 200.x5 or 241.08 paper jam error as the sheets overlapped in the Fuser. See images below.

Two sheets overlapped in the fuser as seen at the rear side of the printer (left image) and inside with toner and imaging kit removed (middle image). (Top) A single image is printed in overlapping paper.

NOTES

  • The numeric error code displayed depends on the firmware version running on the printer. If you recently updated your printer's firmware and this type of jam happens, most likely you will get a 241.08 numeric error instead of a 200.x5.

  • A 241.08 error will inform you that extra sheets are in the output bin. These are the "supposed" jammed sheets which the printer automatically flushed. You just have to press "Continue" to reprint the job instead of opening the door and removing the cartridge in order to clear the jam.

  • In a 200.x5 numeric error, an ‘x’ indicates the source tray (0 = MPT, 1 = tray 1, etc.).

Recommended solution

Follow the recommendations below to avoid or minimize the occurrence of 200.05, 200.15, or 241.08 paper jam.

Check Items
The type of media being used

  • Verify from the printer’s User Guide whether the type of media is supported.

  • If using cardstock or labels, verify whether the media meets all recommendations stated in the Cardstock & Label Guide.

Proper media loading

  • Make sure the tray is not overfilled. Use the level indicator found in the tray.

  • Verify if the Media Size & Type Setting matches actual paper size & type loaded.

  • Make sure the Tray Guides are set correctly.

  • Make sure the media stack corners are straight and sheets are aligned.

  • Check the media edges and make sure that none are damaged or no sheets are locking together.

  • Fan the media and check that nothing is causing sheets to stick together.

The printer’s current Base code level

  • Update the printer’s Base code to properly identify the source tray that causes the paper jam. See the section below How to download firmware.

Separator rolls

  • Make sure the rollers are clean. (See image below for their location.) If the rollers are worn out or damaged, contact Lexmark Technical Support to request for replacement.
