What you will see
 

The error message, "Printer settings could not be saved. This operation is not supported." displays after attempting to change a driver on a Windows Server 2012 R2 print server.

 

 

 

Suggested remedy

Unshare the printer to allow you to change the driver associated with a particular printer.

To do this:
  

  1. Click the Settings > Control Panel > Administrative tools > Print Management shortcut.
  2. Right-click on the printer and then click Properties.
  3. Click on the Sharing tab and uncheck the Share this printer box.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Change the driver.
  6. Re-share the printer.

 

 

Explanation

It is not possible to switch drivers while the printer is shared.
