How to Print, Scan, and Fax Using Mac OS X 10.7 – 10.11 and macOS 10.12, 10.13 or 10.14

This article details the step-by-step process of how to send a print, scan, or fax job to your Lexmark printer from the following Macintosh operating system versions:

  • Mac OS X 10.7.x (Lion)
  • Mac OS X 10.8.x (Mountain Lion)
  • Mac OS X 10.9.x (Mavericks)
  • Mac OS X 10.10.x (Yosemite)
  • Mac OS X 10.11.x (El Capitan)
  • macOS 10.12 (Sierra)
  • macOS 10.13 (High Sierra)
  • macOS 10.14 (Mojave)

NOTE: Some of the settings layout may differ per Mac OS version, but similar options are available.


How to send a print job

Step Action Illustration

On the your application's File Menu, click Print. The print dialog will pop up.


To view printing options, click the underneath the Presets Option.

Note: Presets contain additional option(s) for Mac OS 10.9.x and later OS versions.


If the file is ready to be printed, just click the Print button.

Note: If you have several printers, click the print dialog box and select the printer that you would like to print.



How to scan

There are two ways to scan your document from Mac OS X and macOS: 

Using Scanner Proxy

NOTE: For bonjour-enabled printers, a scan proxy is created with the printer proxy. For network-connected printers only.

Step Action Illustration

Go to System Preferences and select Print & Scan.

Note: Click Printers and Scanners for Mac OS 10.9.x and later OS versions.

2 On Print & Scan dialog, select Scan.  
3 Click 'Open Scanner' to open the scanner dialog.  

Select the Scanner icon located in the upper right-hand corner of the scanner dialog.

Note: On the lower left-hand side of the scanner box, you may select which mode the printer will scan, whether through the Flatbed or through the Document Feeder or Automatic Document feeder (ADF).

For more scanning options, select Show Details before scanning a document.
6 To start scanning, click Scan.

Using Image Capture

NOTE: This application can support both USB and network connections.

Step Action Illustration
1 Go to Applications and select Image Capture.  

On the Image Capture pane, select the printer under DEVICES.

Note: For network scanners with bonjour support, make sure that scanner is shared via System Preferences. Wireless scanners can be accessed under SHARED.

3 For more scanning options, select Show Details before scanning a document.

To start scanning, click Scan.

Note: Lexmark All-in-One Scan Center, TWAIN and OCR Scanning are not supported on Mac OS X version 10.7.



How to send a fax job

NOTE: If your computer has a modem that is connected to a phone line, you can fax files directly from your computer to any fax machine or computer that is set up to receive faxes.

Step Action Illustration
1 Locate File and select Print.  
2 Then select the fax-configured printer from the printer's list. A fax dialog box will display.  

For fax options, just select the Fax information button; then a drop menu will appear displaying different types of options

Note: Fax Setup Utility and the AIO Setup Utility are not supported on Mac OS X version 10.7. Fax settings may be adjusted through the printer’s operator panel.


Type the fax number in the to field, or click the Address Book button on the right of the To field to select a number. Press Fax to send.

Note: If your phone system requires you to dial a prefix for an outside line, type it in the Dialing Prefix field. Should a cover page be required, check the Use cover page option. If the fax document needs more than one copy of the document, modify Copies and Pages option.
